BALTIMORE, MD (Oct. 1, 2009) – The Johns Hopkins University Sheridan Libraries have been awarded $20 million from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to build a data research infrastructure for the management of the ever-increasing amounts of digital information created for teaching and research. The five-year award, announced today, was one of two for what is being called “data curation.”

NEW MEXICO (Nov. 18, 2009) – The DataONE office, based within both the Office of the Vice President of Research and University Libraries at the University of New Mexico, has been awarded $20 million by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support its scientific research activities for the next five years. The project is under the direction of William Michener, professor and director of e-science initiatives at University Libraries.
Hakan Olsson is a professor and specialist in forestry remote sensing at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, which is the nation’s main center of research in forestry. He has initiated a large number of research projects evaluating remote sensing data.
Jean Bernard Minster is a University of California-San Diego distinguished professor of geophysics and chair of the International Council for Science’s World Data System Scientific Committee (ICSU WDSSC). He has been involved with data issues for over two decades, through the National Research Council.
Mark Parsons is a manager at the National Snow and Ice Data Center at the University of Colorado in Boulder. His specialties include data management processes, interdisciplinary data management; metadata and long-term data stewardship.
In his role at the NSIDC, his duties include serving as program manager for the International Polar Year Data Management, the Exchange for Local Observations and Knowledge [...]
